The country has a huge number of patients who need oxygen due to the fast development in numbers of Covid-19 patients in High Dependency Units and Intensive Care Units in the country. About a month ago Dr. Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam, the country’s representative at the World Health Organization said “On the week starting from 25 April, Uganda reported 256 cases. The week starting 2nd May, that number went up to 411. The week of the 9th of May, the number went to 475. And the week of the 16 May, the number had already reached 1,060,” Uganda is seeing a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases its current status holds of total 65,631 active cases,

Recently H.E Museveni called the outbreak “diffuse and sustained,” with fatality and critical illness levels that were greater than the country’s first wave and As part of an effort to prevent the COVID-19 surge from overwhelming the healthcare system Uganda’s president H. E Museveni reimposed a lockdown.
Uganda has also set Entry Restrictions on all arrivals from foreign countries to Uganda. Upon arrival, the traveler will be tested for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status. The Ministry of Health has stated that these tests should not cost more than USD 65. This and other more measures are being taken to combat the COVID-19 surge in the country.
On Monday 14 June Mr. Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the senior spokesperson of the Health Ministry tweeted that the 175,200 doses of Covid-19 vaccines would arrive on Wednesday 16 June 2021 at 10:25 pm. Uganda had to receive its second batch of Covid-19 vaccine doses yesterday, A total of 175,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines that was donated by the French embassy. The current population of Uganda is 47,109,178 as of Wednesday, June 16, 2021.
