Hon Nabbanja Robinah: Uganda’s First Female Prime Minister

President Yoweri Museveni, on 8th June 2021 appointed  Robinah Nabbanja to replace Rt Hon Ndugu Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who was appointed special envoy in the Office of the president, as 11th Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in Parliament,  making her The first female, to occupy the office since Uganda’s Independence.

 

 

Hon Nabbanja has been the Minister of State for Health in charge of General Duties from 2019 till her new appointment as Uganda’s Prime minister, between 2019 and 2016 she served as a parliamentary commissioner, a role she filled after serving as treasurer for the NRM from 2011 to 2016.

 

 

Hon. Nabbanja shortly after the approval of her appointment as Uganda’s first female Prime Minister said, “I request all of you for your support and prayers as we embark on this journey. I thank the people of Uganda for repeatedly trusting H.E Kaguta Museveni and the NRM with the mandate to lead this Country. I believe that with the vision God has given him to embark on social-economic transformation, the future of Ugandans will be secured.”

She is currently the Woman MP for Kakumiro District and has been since 2016 when Kakumiro District was founded.  Hon Nabbanja Robinah is a patriot passionate about community mobilization, effective service delivery and resource allocation, before joining elective politics in 2011, for 10 years (2001–2010) the Hon Nabbanja served as a Resident District Commissioner in the districts of Pallisa, Busia and Budaka.
